What's next? You need a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) for work reasons to work as an employee or a self-employed person! You can apply for it only after obtaining an authorization (called in Italian "nulla osta") from the Interior Ministry.

How can I obtain the authorization? It is necessary to apply for the Nulla Osta at the competent Prefettura before the expiration of your study permit. Nonetheless, the same procedure can be activated both before and after your graduation.

What's next? You need to get the so-called "idoneità abitativa" certificate (house eligibility).

What is an Idoneità Abitativa certificate? It is a document issued by the competent Municipality that certifies your house is suitable for 1 or more persons, and it is compliant with health and safety building regulations.

How can I apply? Every Municipality has their own submission procedure to apply for the certificate; based on the municipality it is possible to understand who is entitled to request the document, and which are the necessary documents to be presented.

If your study permit is going to expire soon and you are still looking for a job you don't need to panic. There's a specific residence permit designed for you. It is called "ricerca lavoro" permit, and it gives you 1 year time to stay in Italy.

How can I obtain the permit? You can apply for the ricerca lavoro permit only if you already graduated (from a MUR recognized institution) and if you can certify you are unemployed. As you previously proceeded with the study residence permit application, it is possible to apply for the job-searching permit submitting the postal kit at the post office and attending the fingerprint appointment at Questura.

You need one or more of your family members to reach you. If your family member is a non-EU citizen, you need to proceed with the reunification process through a dedicated immigration procedure for Family Reunification or Family Cohesion.
